Nestling at the foot of the great Rocky Mountains is the sprawling city of Denver in the USA. The growing city of Denver is reputed for its extremely environment friendly people and they have even returned back hosting the entire Winter Olympics because the citizens feared that the extent of environmental damage to the city during the Olympics would be too much for the city to bear. Such is the love and the dying passion for the city from the people of Denver that has made America proud in more than one ways.
Being the capital of the state of Colorado, Denver is the 18th most populous city in the United States and has been growing at a phenomenal rate. The history of this city is unique – people began to search for gold in the South Platte River and the city was set up as a small mining town in 1858. The idea was soon abandoned and the city grew on its own. Between the later part of the 19th century Denver was enveloped in a state of corruption and crimes with various criminals and gangsters sorting it out between themselves in broad daylight. Gambling and the bunko gangs were wrecking havoc during the elections in Denver during this period.
Denver has a gifted weather all through the year; winters can be mild but at times with heavy snowfall, there have been cold winters as well. Just to the south of the city are the great Rockies and the effect of the snowfall over the mountain ranges is quite visible on the city too. The rainfall is moderate and sunshine is more or less even with at least 69% of the daylight time available throughout the year as clear sunshine hours. The snow in Denver can go up to 11 inches and is often the result of the confluence of the cold Arctic air and the Pacific storm currents that rush in the snow during the early March. Snow is common in Denver the earliest occurrence in the year being in October and staying on till April.
Fondly known as the Mile High City since its elevation from the sea level is exactly 1609 meters, Denver is truly a clean and a picturesque city along the Rocky Mountains. The city in its early formation days however had been a dusty collection of some buildings and tall grasses. Today Denver boasts of more than 200 parks with neat and clear layouts each a shade better than the other. The Government has also piled in its efforts in developing the south mountain fringes in small parks of which the Red Rocks Park is eminent. The population of Denver is very friendly and well educated. They make guests feel at home in their city and are very helpful if you are in need of help especially if you are new to the city. These characteristics make Denver one of the most beloved cities of the United States and truly the city of the people of Colorado.
